Can people with HSV 2 have children? If so how?

  • I was told that people with HSV-2 can't have children and even if they do their child is born with serve birth defects, mental retardation or learning disabilites. And that valtrax causes those problems as well as the virus. So what is the actual truth??? AND DON'T LIE TO ME.

That is not true at all. I gave birth vaginally and had an outbreak at 3 months pregnant. The doctor had me take my meds daily until I gave birth and everything was fine. I have a friend who has HSV2 and delivered all 4 of her babies vaginally.

That is completely untrue. the only precautions about birthing a child is you are HSV2 positive is that you have to make sure you are not having an outbreak or in the "shedding period" while you're in labor/giving birth. Many doctors will recommend that you do not have a vaginal birth and opt for a cesarean for precautionary measures. I have a close friend that is HSV2+ and birthed both of her children naturally/vaginally with no complications whatsoever.

There is no truth to that whatsoever. The only risk is that the child could contract hsv if delivered naturally during an active outbreak.
